Welcome to My World of Color, Nature & Creativity

Hello, and welcome! I’m Brandy Blackstone, a Southern Maryland artist working in watercolor, acrylic, oil, and mixed media. I’m happy to have this space to share my artwork, the inspiration behind it, and a little of what happens along the way.

Nature is often where a painting begins for me—the colors of a flower, the delicate patterns of a butterfly’s wings, or the way light changes a familiar landscape. Some pieces stay close to what I see, while others take a more playful turn through unexpected colors, textures, and shapes.

Across my collections, you’ll find different expressions of that curiosity. Petals & Wings brings together botanicals, birds, and butterflies in watercolor. Whimsical by Nature explores natural subjects through imaginative color and pattern, while Nature’s Impressions captures flowers and landscapes in oil. In Continued Elegance, I combine sections of different original paintings with gold accents, creating new compositions inspired by the Japanese practice of yobitsugi.

This blog will offer a closer look at those creative decisions, from the first spark of an idea to the layers and experiments that shape a finished painting. I’ll also share new artwork, upcoming exhibitions, painting classes, and moments from the Southern Maryland arts community.

With more than 30 years in web and graphic design, I’ve spent much of my life working with images and color. Painting gives me another way to explore those interests—and there is always something new to try, learn, or see differently.

Whether you’re here to find artwork for your home, learn about a class, or simply enjoy a few moments of color, I’m glad you stopped by. Take a look through the collections, visit my About page to learn more about my story, and check back as I share what’s taking shape in the studio.

Thank you for being here.
